He pens his signature on envelope honoring the world tour of Astronauts!
Commemorative Envelope Signed: "Alan L. Bean", 6½x3½. Commemorative cover,
postmarked Houston, Texas, with typed notation at upper left: "Commemorating the
world/tour of Astronauts/Alan L. Bean, Charles/Conrad, Jr. and/Richard Gordon/Flown
around the world and/back to Houston, Texas". Addressed to Larry Baxter,
Director-Aeronautica Office, East Haven, Conn. Alan L. Bean, Charles Conrad, Jr. and
Richard F. Gordon, Jr. were aboard Apollo 12, launched on November 14, 1969. Bean and
Conrad landed on the Moon on November 18th, collected 74.7 pounds of samples during
their 31 hour and 31 minute stay, docked with the Command Module piloted by Gordon
and returned to Earth on November 24, 1969. Bean (1932-2018) was selected by NASA (as
part of the third group of astronauts) in 1963. The Lunar Module Pilot on Apollo 12 in
November 1969, Bean was the fourth man to walk on the Moon. From July 29-September
25, 1973, Bean was Spacecraft Commander of Skylab 3, the second manned mission to link
up with Skylab. Bean, who retired from the U.S. Navy in October 1975, resigned from
NASA in June 1981 to devote time to painting. Fine condition.
