NASA photograph of the Apollo 12 insignia (worn on the astronauts' space suits), which the three astronauts helped design. The Lunar Excursion Module was called Yankee Clipper after the 19th century clipper ships. Apollo 12, launched on November 14, 1969, landed on the Moon on November 18th. During their 31 hour and 31 minute stay, Bean and Conrad collected 74.7 pounds of Moon rock. They blasted off from the Moon, docked with the Command Module piloted by Richard Gordon and returned to Earth on November 24, 1969. Conrad was killed in a motorcycle accident on July 8, 1999.
