Signature: "Harold I. June", 5x3. HAROLD I. JUNE (1895-1962), was an engineer aboard Henry S. Vanderbilt's yachts before joining the US Navy as a Machinist's Mate in World War I. In the 1920s he became a Navy test pilot, specializing in seaplanes and catapult-launched scout planes. Along with McKinley and pilot Bernt Belchen, he accompanied Richard Byrd on this first historic flight over the South Pole. He then resumed duties as a test pilot through World War II, retiring from his final post, Chief Test Pilot at Alameda Naval Air Station in 1947. Pencil note (unknown hand) on verso. Toned.
