Envelope signed: "Jon A. McBride", in black ink, 6½x3¾. Jon A. McBride (b. 1943) is a former NASA astronaut and U.S. Navy officer, beginning his employment with NASA in 1978. Made an astronaut in 1979, McBride worked on the technical side for several years before he was assigned to pilot the STS-41-G aboard the Challenger. The mission was a success, and McBride was then slated to command the STS-61-E, which was ultimately cancelled in the wake of the Challenger disaster. McBride retired from NASA shortly after being chosen to command the STS-35, instead pursuing business ventures and a possible political career. In 2011, NASA dedicated a software laboratory in West Virginia to the former astronaut. Corners lightly worn. Slight surface creases. Slightly toned. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso. Ink stamps. Otherwise, fine condition.
