1989. Edwards Air Force Base, March 18, 1989. KATHRYN SULLIVAN (b. 1951)
was a mission specialist on Challenger STS-41G (1984), Discovery
STS-31 (1990) and Atlantis STS-45 (1992). In 1984, Dr. Sullivan conducted
a 3½ hour Extravehicular Activity (EVA) outside the Challenger shuttle to
demonstrate the feasibility of actual satellite refueling, making her the
first U.S. woman to perform an EVA. MICHAEL A. BAKER (b. 1953) is
a NASA astronaut and ISS Program Manager. A graduate of the University of
Texas, he became an astronaut in July of 1986. Baker flew on NASA
missions STS-43, STS-52, STS-62 and STS-81. His awards include the Defense
Superior Service Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, Legion of Merit, NASA
Outstanding Leadership Medal, NASA Exceptional Service Medal and the National
Defense Medal. MARSHA S. IVINS (b. 1951), who had worked at the Lyndon B.
Johnson Space Center from 1974-1980 as an engineer, was selected as a NASA
astronaut in 1984. The Mission Specialist, who has logged 1,318 hours in
space, is a veteran of five space flights: STS-32, Columbia,
January 9-20, 1990; STS-46, Atlantis, July 31-August 8, 1992; STS-62,
Columbia, March 4-18, 1994; STS-81, Atlantis, January 12-22, 1997;
and, STS-98, Atlantis, February 7-20, 2001. She is currently assigned to
the Astronaut Office, Space Station/Shuttle Branches and the Advanced Projects
Branch at the Johnson Space Center. G. DAVID LOW (1956-2008) was an American
astronaut. He was selected as an astronaut candidate in 1984, and became
an astronaut in 1985. He has worked on a number of missions, and been
rewarded for his work with NASA, including NASA Space Flight Medals, NASA
Exceptional Service Medals, and NASA Outstanding Leadership Medals. P.J.
Culbertson is an astronaut, noted as working entry on the envelope. Pencil
