Envelope signed: "Michael J. Smith", 6½x3½. Four stamps
postmarked Kennedy Space Center, Florida, September 29, 1988. Smith signed this
envelope before it was postmarked or cacheted. Smith's first space flight
was as pilot of the ill-fated Challenger STS-51L mission which exploded
73 seconds after lift-off on January 28, 1986. Discovery STS-26 was
launched on September 29, 1988 and marked the resumption of the U.S. space
shuttle missions after the Challenger accident. Fine
condition.
