CHALLENGER: 1983 MAIDEN FLIGHT
Launched first Tracking and Data Relay Satellite.

Inscribed at top in calligraphy: "Presented to Stan Jacobsen - From the STS-6 crew". On April 4, 1983, the Challenger, the second U.S. space shuttle was launched for the first time. After five successful launches of the Columbia, the Challenger began its first voyage into space, returning with its four-man crew on April 9, 1983. STAN JACOBSEN was Assistant Chief of the Publications Branch at NASA's Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston. With input from the astronauts themselves, his staff designed the space mission insignias. Minor surface crease at lower right of photograph. Fine condition.
