In part: “On the way back I began to think about the case of beer / I had left under my cot back on Leyte. A couple of days before/ Christmas I had wangled it from the Navy, unloading supplies at/ Tacloban and I hadn't had a chance to break it open. I learned/ several of my friends had put it to good use-I think one of/ them might have toasted me!” Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition. Accompanied by Autograph Note Signed: “RWD” on a 3x3 sticky note. In Full: “Good luck on/ your collection/ Bill/ Regards”. Dated November 19, 1990. Fine condition. Robert W. Aschenbrener (1920-2009) was a WWII flying ace. He first flew with the 8th Fighter Squadron of the 49th Fighter Group. He took down over 10 planes during his 850 combat hours in the air. After he was shot down in December 1944, he hid in the jungle for nearly a month to escape capture. Following his return to his unit, Aschenbrener earned the rank of Major and was named Commander of the 7th Fighter Squadron. Two Items.
