ASTRONAUTS WALLY SCHIRRA AND TOM STAFFORD, WHO WOULD FLY TOGETHER ON GEMINI 6 TEN MONTHS LATER, SIGN AN ITINERY FOR THE VISIT OF VICE PRESIDENT HUBERT HUMPHREY TO THE KENNEDY SPACE CENTER

WALLY SCHIRRA and TOM STAFFORD.
Itinerary signed: "Wally Schirra" and "Thomas P. Stafford" on verso, 9p, 8½x11, separate sheets, stapled together at upper left corners. John F. Kennedy Space Center, Florida, circa 1965. Headed: "Itinerary for Visit of/Vice President Humphrey/to/John F. Kennedy Space Center, NASA, 22 February 1965". The itinery lists both a primary and alternate schedule for the visit of Humphrey to the Space Center, as well as "Administrative Notes", a "Vehicle Seating Arrangement" for the 12 cars in the motorcade and luncheon seating arrangements. Humphrey was accompanied on this visit by Dr. Kurt H. Debus, the Director of the Space Center and Florida Governor Haydon Burns as well as military officials and other dignitaries. WALTER M. "WALLY" SCHIRRA, JR. (1923-2007), one of the original seven Project Mercury astronauts, was the fifth American in space (Sigma 7, October 3, 1962, six orbits, nine hours and 13 minutes). On December 15-16, 1965, aboard Gemini 6A, he and Thomas Stafford completed 15 orbits and successfully rendezvoused with Gemini 7. Schirra was also the Commander of the first manned Apollo 7 mission, October 11-22, 1968, making him the only astronaut to participate in all three space programs. THOMAS P. "TOM" STAFFORD (born in 1930) was aboard Gemini 6 with Wally Schirra in the first rendezvous in space and Gemini 9, which accomplished three different types of rendezvous, with Gene Cernan. Stafford, Cernan, and John Young were aboard Apollo 10, which orbited the Moon. They maneuvered the ship within nine miles of the lunar surface. Ten years after his first Gemini flight, Stafford flew with Vance Brand and Deke Slayton on the Apollo vehicle that docked with the Soviet Soyuz. Lightly creased with mid-vertical fold, not at signatures. Verso is lightly soiled, touching signatures. Some pages are also slightly soiled, minor stains. Overall, fine and interesting.
