The Archbishop of Toulouse signs this 2¾x5 photograph of himself smiling
Photograph signed in French: on verso, translated in full "With my affectionate/ benediction
and/ the announcement of/ my [1 word difficult to decipher]/ Jean Guyot/Cardinal
Archeveque/de Toulouse" in blue ink, 2¾x5. Louis-Jean Guyot (1907-1988) was a cardinal of
the Catholic Church, and archbishop of Toulouse 1966-1978. In 1935 Guyot obtained a
Doctorate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas. He was
made cardinal in 1973 by Pope Paul VI, named the cardinal-priest of Sant'Agnese fuori le
mura. He took part in the August 1978 Conclave which elected Pope John Paul I, and in the
October 1978 Conclave which elected Pope John Paul II. Corners slightly rounded.
