Pignedoli". Color, 4½x6. Sergio Cardinal Pignedoli (1910-1980), an
Italian Navy chaplain during World War II, served as a papal nuncio in Latin
America before becoming Auxiliary Bishop of Milan in 1955. There he became a
friend of future Pope Paul VI. He was President of the Secretariat for
Non-Christians (1973-1980). Mentioned as a possible pope himself, he
participated in both papal elections of 1978. Fine condition.
