Photograph signed: "Carl Ballantine/95". Color, 7¾x9¾ overall, 7½x9½ image, one surface. Depicted in his role as Torpedoman's Mate Lester Gruber in the TV series McHale's Navy (1962-1966), a role he reprised in the 1964 film of the same name. In the year he signed this photograph, Ballantine appeared in the feature film, Oink. Actor and magician Ballantine (1922-2009), who is best known for his role as Torpedoman Lester Gruber in the TV series, McHale's Navy (1962-1966), and the 1964 film of the same name, was an inspiring magician whose tricks roused only laughter from audiences. Capitalizing on his ineptitude, he showed up as "The Great Ballantine" on such shows as The Ed Sullivan Show and The Steve Allen Show. Ballantine has also appeared in such feature films as The Shakiest Gun in the West (1968), The World's Greatest Lover (1977) and Mr. Saturday Night (1992), and he has made a number of made-for-TV movies. Ballantine, who is sometimes billed as Carl Ballentine, has also guest starred on several TV shows. Slightly creased at blank corners and margins. Minor surface creases, one beneath newspaper barely visible. Tack hole at lower right corner. Fine condition.
