CARL BETZ
The veteran actor, Dr. Stone on The Donna Reed Show, contracts to appear in a TV pilot.
Document signed: "Carl Betz", 3p, 8½x11. No place, 1974 September 9. Agreement with Spelling-Goldberg Productions for Betz's appearance in the part of Will in a Movie of the Week, "The Daughters of Joshua Cabe", with guaranteed employment for a minimum of one week at a salary of $5,000 per week, beginning on September 10. Betz is to be credited as a "special guest star", and will receive a bonus of $2,500 each if the movie is exhibited theatrically in the U.S., or outside the U.S. Stage, screen and television actor Carl Betz (1921-1978) is best known for his role as Dr. Alex Stone on The Donna Reed Show (1958-1966). Betz, who then starred in Judd for the Defense (1967-1969), also made several made-for-TV movies and was a guest star on TV series from O. Henry's Full House (1952) to Kingston: Confidential (1977). Betz, who had made his Broadway debut in The Long Watch in 1952, was under contract to Twentieth Century-Fox before moving to the small screen. He had supporting roles in such films as The President's Lady and Dangerous Crossing (both 1953), and his later films include That Lady from Peking (1970) and The Boy Who Talked to Badgers and The Meal (both 1975). The Daughters of Joshua Cabe was a successful TV movie in 1972, prompting Spelling-Goldberg to produce another version intended as a pilot for a series. The 1975 pilot, one of two the company produced and the one featuring Carl Betz, was not picked up as a series by any network. Binder holes at top. Staple, light diagonal fold and paperclip impression in upper left corner. Overall, fine condition.
