CARL BRISSON
Vintage photo of a young Carl Brisson shown in a double breasted suit with polka-dot tie
Inscribed photograph signed: "To Bert Best-/Best Wishes/Carl Brisson/1934/Hollywood". Sepia, 8x10.Multitalented entertainer Carl Brisson (1893-1958), born Carl Pederson in Copenhagen, Denmark, was a former professional boxer, dancer, nightclub singer and veteran of the London stage (from 1923) before making his first major film, Alfred Hitchcock's silent The Ring, in 1927. He displayed his fine tenor voice when he introduced the pop standard, "Cocktails for Two", in the 1934 film, Murder at the Vanities. Brisson, who made his last film, Ship Cafe, in 1935, was the father of Tony Award-winning theatrical producer Frederick Brisson - the longtime husband of Rosalind Russell. Saul Goodman (1919-2003), a New York business man by day, pursued his love of film and theatre in the evening, making friends with many celebrities. While other autograph seekers offered album leaves, Goodman presented stars with snazzy photographs, a rarity then, to sign in fountain pen. Toned. Corners lightly worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
