Carl Perkins write the lyrics to "Match Box" on a 9x12 sheet.
Autograph Lyrics signed: "Written by/Carl Perkins/Jan 10th/1955", 1p, 9x12. His handwritten lyrics to "Match Box". This song, which includes the classic line, "If you don't want my peaches please don't shake my tree", can be heard on several collections of Perkins' songs and has been covered by many artists, including Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and The Beatles. Singer/songwriter Carl Perkins (1932-1998) had a No. 1 hit with "Blue Suede Shoes" in 1956. In a tragic twist of fate, Carl and his brother were seriously injured in an auto accident while on their way to appear on television shows in New York City (The Perry Como Show on Saturday night and The Ed Sullivan Show on Sunday evening). While in traction, Perkins watched Elvis Presley perform his hit on Sullivan's variety show. While his own career never regained its momentum, Perkins continued to record and write songs for other stars, including Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline and the Beatles, and his guitar style was highly influential. Before his death from throat cancer, he saw himself elevated to "living legend" status and elected to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Ink note (unknown hand) at lower right corner. Fine condition.
