CARL REINER
The famous film director signed this index card in blue felt tip
Signature: "Carl Reiner". 5x3 index card. Carl Reiner (1922-2020) first came to fame as a
performer on the live comedy variety show Your Show of Shows (1950-1954). This
sketch comedy television series served as a workshop for many future comedy pioneers,
including Sid Caesar, Mel Brooks, and Neil Simon. All four men went on to become major
comedy stars, mostly as writers but in front of the camera as well. His working
relationship with Sid Caesar continued with Caesar's Hour (1954-1957). He went on to be
the creator of The Dick Van Dyke Show, which aired from 1961 to 1966. The show is
considered one of the greatest of all time. Later in his career, he moved into the director's
chair, beginning with television shows such as Good Morning, World (1967) and The New
Dick Van Dyke Show (1971-1974). The third film he directed, 1977's Oh, God!, became
an iconic film for its comedic perspective on the main character's relationship with an
entity he isn't sure he believes in. Other notable films include The Comic (1970) and Dead
Men Don't Wear Plaid (1982), the latter of which starred Steve Martin. During his career,
Reiner won 9 Emmy Awards (15 nominations) and a single Grammy Award, the 1999
Best Spoken Comedy Album award for a more modern take on his comedy routine The
2000 Year Old Man. In this hilarious stage routine that was turned into a television special in
1975, Mel Brooks portrays a man who claims he is 2000 years old, and Reiner plays a
reporter. More recently, Reiner has done some acting, most notably in the Ocean's Trilogy,
which were all released from 2001 to 2007. He also worked on several Broadway
productions, most notably Enter Laughing (1963-1964). Reiner's son Rob Reiner has
become a respected director and actor himself, most famous for his work (as an actor or
director) for This is Spinal Tap (1984), Stand By Me (1986), and All in the Family
(1971-1978), and The Princess Bride (1987). Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
