CARL YASTRZEMSKI and LUIS TIANT, JR.

Signed color photo of both in casual suits at an event

Photograph signed: "Luis Tiant", "Carl Yastrzemski". Color, 8x10. CARL YASTRZEMSKI replaced Ted Williams in left field for the Boston Red Sox in 1961 and followed him into the Hall of Fame in 1989. When he retired after 23 years, Yastrzemski ranked first in career games (3,308), third in at-bats (11,988) and walks (1,845), sixth in total bases (5,539), seventh in hits (3,419) and doubles (646), and ninth in RBI (1,844). He was the first American League player with both 3,000 hits and 400 homers. Although he won three batting titles, played in 18 All-Star games, and was acknowledged as the finest defensive left fielder of his time, "Yaz" will be primarily remembered by Red Sox rooters for his Triple Crown/MVP 1967 season. That was the year of The Impossible Dream in which the Sox, 9th place in 1966 and dormant for more than a decade, took the powerful St. Louis Cardinals to the seventh game of the World Series. "Yaz" was also captain of the 1975 team, which suffered another heartbreaking 7-game Series loss to the even more powerful Cincinnati Reds. A Cuban-born pitcher with an eccentric windup, LUIS TIANT, JR. (1940-2024) led the American League in Earned Run Average in 1968 with the Cleveland Indians, then recovered from injuries to become a fan favorite and 3-time twenty game winner for the Boston Red Sox in the 1970's. Fenway Park reverbertated with Red Sox fans chanting, "LOO-EEE, LOO-EEE." Tiant, who threw 4 consecutive shutouts in 1966, won 229 Major League games. His father, Luis Tiant, Sr., was a great pitcher who threw for the Negro League New York Cubans in the summer, and for the Cuban national team in the winter. He traveled to the US under a special exit visa in 1975 to watch his son star in the 1975 World Series. (Luis won Game One, shutting out the Big Red Machine, and again in Game Four. He pitched again in Game Six, won by the Sox in extra innings.) Famous for smoking cigars, Tiant marketed a cigar brand bearing his nickname, "El Tiante." Fine condition.
