CARL YASTRZEMSKI Photo signed with his Hall of Fame year. Split image showing a youthful Yaz, and Dodger Tommy Davis, pictured the year each won his League's batting title (1963) Photograph signed: "Carl Yastrzemski/HOF 1989". B/w 8x10 with 2 images, 4x10 each. Also pictured on the card is LA Dodger outfielder Tommy Davis, who won the National League batting title in 1963 while Yastrzemski won the AL crown. CARL YASTRZEMSKI replaced Ted Williams in left field for the Boston Red Sox in 1961 and followed him into the Hall of Fame in 1989. When he retired after 23 years (1961-1983), Yastrzemski ranked first in career games (3,308), third in at-bats (11,988) and walks (1,845), sixth in total bases (5,539), seventh in hits (3,419) and doubles (646), and ninth in RBI (1,844). He was the first American League player with both 3,000 hits and 400 homers. Although he won three batting titles, played in 18 All-Star games, and was acknowledged as the finest defensive left fielder of his time, "Yaz" will be primarily remembered by Red Sox rooters for his Triple Crown/MVP 1967 season. That was the year of The Impossible Dream in which the Sox, 9th place in 1966 and dormant for more than a decade, took the powerful St. Louis Cardinals to the seventh game of the World Series. "Yaz" was also captain of the 1975 team, which suffered another heartbreaking 7-game Series loss to the even more powerful Cincinnati Reds. Edges lightly creased. Scratched at upper right edge. Associated press typed letter affixed to verso. Associated press and Library ink stamps on verso (no show through). Otherwise fine condition. Previously authenticated by JSA.
