CARL "YAZ" YASTRZEMSKI
Printed photo of Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski with a bat raised in his Red Sox uniform
Inscribed printed photograph signed in ink: "To Donald, /Carl Yastrzemski". B/w 8x10.
Yastrzemski, born Carl Michel Yastrzemski in 1939,replaced Ted Williams in left field for
the Boston Red Sox in 1961 and followed him into the Hall of Fame in 1989. When he
retired after 23 years, Yastrzemski ranked first in career games (3,308), third in at-bats
(11,988) and walks (1,845), sixth in total bases (5,539), seventh in hits (3,419) and doubles
(646), and ninth in RBI (1,844). He was the first American League player with both 3,000
hits and 400 homers. Although he won three batting titles, played in 18 All-Star games,
and was acknowledged as the finest defensive left fielder of his time, "Yaz" will be
primarily remembered by Red Sox rooters for his Triple Crown/MVP 1967 season. That
was the year of The Impossible Dream in which the Sox, 9th place in 1966 and dormant for
more than a decade, took the powerful St. Louis Cardinals to the seventh game of the World
Series. "Yaz" was also captain of the 1975 team, which suffered another heartbreaking 7-game
Series loss to the even more powerful Cincinnati Reds. Toned and lightly creased. Notch at
center left edge. Multiple nail-sized stains on verso with light show through. Torn at center
top edge. Otherwise fine condition.
