Inscribed photograph signed (in Italian, loosely translated): "To my dear friend and teacher for
fond "memories in red"/a thousand wishes/Carlo Badioli/1954". B/w, 4x6. Carlo Badioli (b.
1916) is an Italian opera singer who was prominent on stage during the 1940's and 1950's. A
bass singer, Badioli performed with Teatro Alla Scala of Milan, Teatro Regio of Torino,
Teatro di S. Carlo and Teatro Verdi Trieste. His most celebrated roles include Don Pasquale
(1953), Il Barbier di Siviglia (as Don Bartolo, 1953) and Elisir d'Amore (as Dulcamara,
1953-1954). He was featured on several recordings during the 1950's, including Gianni
Raimondi's "Donizetti - Linda di Chamounix" (1953). Although largely underrated, he was
greatly adored for his humorous performances on stage. Badioli appeared in one film, La
Boheme in 1965. Corners lightly creased and rounded. Lightly bowed. Photographer's stamp
on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
