Autograph Note signed: "Carlo Bergonzi/1966", 4½x9½ folded,
13¼x9½ open flat. In Italian, loosely translated. He thanks someone for
attending his inn. Illustrated brochure for the I Due Foscari country inn in
Busseto, Italy, south of Milan. Though imprisonment for anti-fascist activities
during World War II delayed his operatic studies Carlo Bergonzi (1924-2014) was
destined to become a star on the stages of La Scala, Covent Garden, and the
Metropolitan Opera. The lyric tenor was best known for his performances
of Verdi, but he had over 40 roles in his repertory. Many recordings
attest to the quality of his voice Officially retired from 1994, he made a
surprise performance at Carnegie Hall in 2000 at the age of 75! In retirement he
lavishes attention on his inn, shown here, hosts the Verdi Academy, and mentors
many operatic tenors. Tape at top edge on verso. Top right corner creased.
