Presentation at Shrine Civil Auditorium on Wednesday, March 29, 1989 at 5:30
p.m." Italian film producer CARLO PONTI (1912-2007), who produced
over 140 films, married his second wife, Italian actress SOPHIA LOREN
(born in 1934) on September 17, 1957. The marriage was annulled in 1962, but the
couple remarried in 1966. They had two sons. At the 1990 Academy Awards
ceremonies, Loren was awarded an honorary Oscar "For a career rich with
memorable performances that has added permanent luster to our art form." In
1993, she presented an honorary Oscar to director Federico Fellini, for whom
Ponti produced La Strada (1954). Ponti, who produced 34 films starring
Loren between 1951 and 1988, was also the producer of such films as
Operation Crossbow (1965), Doctor Zhivago (1965) and
Blowup (1966) in addition to a long list of Italian films. He produced
his last film, Liv, in 1998. ½x½-inch stain at upper center margin. Fine
