CARMEL MEYERS and ANNA SOSENKO
Silent film star Meyers agrees to appear on Sosenko's radio show "The Raleigh Room" in 1945 contract
Contract signed: "Carmel Meyers" and "Anna Sosenko" in black ink. 1 page, 8½x13. Contract agreeing for Meyers to perform at "The Raleigh Room" radio program on January 2, 1946 in New York City, for Sosenko Productions, Inc. New York City, New York. December 28, 1945. CARMEL MEYERS (1899-1980) was an American stage and silent film actress. After a small role in Intolerance (1916), Meyers moved to New York where she worked onstage for two years, before being signed by Universal Studios where she became famous for her vamp roles in films such as All Night (1918). In 1934 she signed with MGM, where she appeared in most famous role as "Iras" in Ben-Hur (1925), which led to other starring roles in films such as Tell It to the Marines (1926), The Show of Shows (1929), Svengali (1931), and The Conspirators (1944). ANNA SOSENKO (1909-2000) produced the hit radio talk show The Raleigh Room, sponsored by Raleigh cigarettes and hosted by the entertainer Hildegarde. The show's theme song, "Darling Je Vous Aime Beaucoup", was written by Sosenko, who was also Hildegarde's manager. (The song was later made famous by Nat King Cole) Sosenko put her vast knowledge of theatre and music to work, conceiving and producing star-studded musical evenings that honored the greats of the theatre. A congenial, outspoken and intense woman, Sosenko probably knew more of the great stars of the theatre of the last 60 years than anyone. Normal mailing folds. Tone. Light surface creases. Corners creased. Small pinpoint stains. Otherwise, fine condition.
