CAROL DEMPSTER - AUTOGRAPHED INSCRIBED PHOTOGRAPH 1983 - HFSID 296037
Price: $320.00
CAROL DEMPSTER
Shown in straw hat and period attire
Photograph inscribed and signed: "But white ink on these glossies
is awful - Best to Tommy McCabe/Always -/Carol Dempster!/83". Sepia, 8x10.
Former dancer Carol Dempster (1901-1991) starred in several of the
later films of director D. W. Griffith, with whom she had a romantic
relationship. She retired from film after marrying a banker in 1929. Critics
in her time treated her harshly, and earlier Griffith stars Lillian Gish and
Mae Marsh disliked her, but some of her films - especially Isn't Life
Wonderful (1924) and The Sorrows of Satan (1926) are well regarded
now. Corners worn and chipped. Toned. Ink notes (unknown hand) and stamps on
verso. Signature lightly beaded but legible. Otherwise, fine
condition.
