Born Carol Larria, actress, singer and dancer Carol Lawrence became an overnight star as the original Maria in West Side Story. She later starred in a number of Broadway musicals, including Kiss of the Spider Woman and I Do, I Do, and performed on national tours of the hit musicals Funny Girl, The Unsinkable Molly Brown, The Sound of Music, Sweet Charity and Sugar Babies. Lawrence also appeared in a number of feature films, including New Faces (1952), I'd Rather Be Rich (1964) and Valley of the Dolls (1981), as well as TV movies and series, including Murder, She Wrote, Love Boat, Touched By An Angel and General Hospital. For four years, she hosted, wrote and produced her bi-weekly TV show, The Carol Lawrence Show, on the Trinity Broadcasting Network. Also a popular nightclub performer and guest performer with symphony orchestras in the U.S. and Canada, Lawrence wrote about her life (including her 1963-1981 marriage to second husband Robert Goulet) and career in her 1990 autobiography, Carol Lawrence: The Backstage Story.
