notations on verso in unknown hand. B/w sepia-toned, 10¼x13, printed on cardstock. One of
Hollywood's most talented stars (and a sophisticated comedienne as well), Carole Lombard
(1908-1942), born Alice Jane Peters, began her rise to stardom opposite John Barrymore in
Twentieth Century(1934) and charmed the nation with her roles in My Man Godfrey(Academy Award nomination, 1936), Nothing Sacred (1937) and To Be or Not to Be(1942). Married to William Powell from 1931 to 1933, she wed screen idol Clark Gable in
1939. Lombard was at the height of her popularity when she was killed in a plane crash
while returning home from selling U.S. War Bonds. Lightly toned, silvered and bowed.
Lightly chipped along edges. Mounting residue and paper loss on verso (no show-through).
