The songwriter and composer signs this book of music which includes "Just Awearyin' For You"
Original sheet music signed on the cover: "Sincerely/Carrie Jacobs-Bond/1940," 8p, 9x12. "Just Awearyin' For You" from Seven Songs As unpretentious as the Wild Rose." Signed in the upper left margin of the color cover. Composer, lyricist and poet, Carrie Jacobs-Bond (1862-1946) was the first woman to establish a music publishing firm in America and also the first great woman popular song composer. Jacobs-Bond learned piano from a young age. She was prompted to write and perform her own music by multiple people before asking singer Jessie Bartlett Davis to perform her song "I Love You Truly", probably her best known piece. Because her pieces were often turned down for publishing, Bond formed The Bond Shop in 1894 to publish her compositions. She became the first woman to sell one million copies of a song. "I Love Your Truly" first appeared in her 1901 collection Seven Songs as Unpretentious as the Wild Rose, along with "Just Awearyin' for You", which was also widely recorded. Jacobs-Bond's song with the highest number of sales immediately after release was "A Perfect Day" in 1910. She also published books of children's poetry and an autobiography titled The Roads of Melody: My Story in 1927, and drew the artwork for her sheet music covers. She was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970. Fine condition.
