Inscribed color postcard photo of Casey in his Mets uniform
Postcard Photograph inscribed and signed: ""To/Bruce/and Craig/Casey Stengel/N.Y. Mets". Color, 3½x5½. Postcard also bears a facsimile signature. Charles Dillon "Casey" Stengel (1890-1975), manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers (1934-1936) and the Boston Braves (1938-1943), is best known for managing the New York Yankees for 12 years (1949-1960). His Yankee teams won the American League pennant ten times (finished 2nd in 1954 and 3rd in 1959) and the World Series seven times (lost to the Dodgers in 1955, the Braves in 1957 and the Pirates in 1960). Stengel, who was later the first Manager of the New York Mets (1962-1965), had his number (#37) retired by both the Yankees and the Mets. Many of the best Stengel stories and quotes come from his final years with the almost comically inept Mets, a team created in the 1962 expansion of the National League, including "Can't anybody here play this game?" Lightly creased at corners. Facsimile signature at upper right.
