CAST A GIANT SHADOW MOVIE CAST
Black and white still from the 1966 film signed by the two co-stars
Printed Photograph signed in Ink: "Senta Berger", in black felt tip and "Kirk/Douglas", in blue
felt tip, b/w 10¼x8. KIRK DOUGLAS (1916-2020), considered by many to be the epitome
of the Hollywood hard man, made his film debut in The Strange Love of Martha Ivers in
1946. Three years later, he received his first Academy Award nomination for Champion
(1949). Douglas, who received two other Oscar nominations, for The Bad and the
Beautiful(1952) and Lust for Life (1956), both directed by Vincente Minnelli, also appeared
in Spartacus (1960), Lonely Are the Brave (1962), The List of Adrian Messenger (1963),
Seven Days in May (1964), In Harm's Way (1965) and numerous other feature and
made-for-television films. In addition to his film work, which was honored with a Lifetime
Achievement Award by the American Film Institute in 1991 and an honorary Oscar by
the Academy in 1995, Douglas has published two novels and an autobiography, The
Ragman's Son (1988). Though he continued to appear in films, by the '80s Douglas began
volunteering much of his time to civic affairs. Since 1963, he worked as a Goodwill
Ambassador and, in 1981, his many contributions earned him the highest civilian award
given in the U.S. - the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Austrian-born actress SENTA
BERGER (b. 1941) made several American films in the 1960s (The Poppy is Also a
Flower, Cast a Giant Shadow, The Quiller Memorandum), and a few in later years (Cross
of Iron, 1977), but she is much better known in Europe, where she has starred in many
German-and Italian-language films and - in recent years - German TV series. She has
been married since 1966 to German director/producer Michael Verhoeven, and formed the
production company Sentana with him. Since 2003, Berger has been President of the
German Film Academy, and she has sat on many international film juries. Her 2006
autobiography sold briskly. Lightly toned. Corners slightly worn and creased. Slight surface
creases and dents (not evident head on). Otherwise, fine condition.
