CATHARINE DOUCET
Vintage photo for Columbia Pictures promoting her appearance in When
You're in Love, inscribed in person to collector Saul Goodman
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To dear Saul/My tender
regards/Catharine". B/w, 8x10. Collector's ink stamp notation on verso dates
signature August 12, 1951. Stage and screen character actress Catharine
Doucet (1875-1958), billed as Catharine Calhoun in her early work, appeared
in Broadway plays for half a century, and also in many silent and talking films.
Among her best remembered roles was that of Countess Maggie Tubbs DePuizzi in
the film version of W. C. Fields' Poppy (1936). She made several TV
playhouse appearances in the early 1950s. Many sources, including Internet Movie
Database, spell her first name "Catherine", but she spelled it as shown here.
Saul Goodman (1919-2003), a New York business man by day, pursued his
love of film and theatre in the evening, making friends with many celebrities.
While other autograph seekers offered album leaves, Goodman presented stars
with snazzy photographs, a rarity then, to sign in fountain pen. Lightly
creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
