Malfitano, born in 1948 in New York City, is an American soprano who is
probably best known for playing the title roles in Puccini's Tosca and
Strauss' Salome. She debuted at the Central City Opera in 1972 as
Nannetta in Verdi's Falstaff. She has since appeared at opera houses
throughout the United States and Europe, including 221 performances at the New
York Metropolitan Opera between 1979 and 2002. Much of Malfitano's fame has come
from TV, especially from a 1978 telecast of Gian-Carlo Menotti's The Saint of
Bleeker Street, in which she played Annina. Malfitano also won an Emmy
award for Outstanding Individual Achievement (Classical Music/Dance Programming)
for a 1992 TV production of Tosca. She has also directed The Saint
of Bleeker Street and Puccini's Madame Butterfly at Central City
Opera. Lightly toned, otherwise in fine condition.
