CECIL SPOONER
Signed letter from the Broadway actress to columnist Louis Sobol,
saying she liked his recent article on radio programs, noting how hard it is for
an average actress to find work on radio. Extremely rare!
Typed letter signed: "Cecil Spooner", in blue ink, 5½x7.
August 10, 1942. Connecticut. In part: "My Dear Mr. Sobol: I was much
interested in your write up of Radio conditions yesterday. I read your column
daily-quite a Sobol "Fan". You would really find it hard to believe, Mr. Sobol,
how difficult it is for an actress of any reputation to get "on" a Radio
program". Actress Cecil Spooner (1875-1953) appeared on Broadway and
film, making her debut in 1903 in a starring role in My Lady Peggy Goes to
Town. This was followed by another starring role in The Girl
Raffles (1906), and several other prominent Broadway roles. Her
roles in film were more limited, with the bulk of her work being in the 1920's
in film shorts. Spooner's last acting role was in a 1950 episode of The
Lone Ranger. Louis Sobol (1896-1986) was an entertainment columnist
("New York Cavalcade") for the Hearst Newspapers. Lightly toned on upper and
bottom margin. Light surface creases. Normal mailing fold. Otherwise, fine
condition.
