Autograph note signed: "Many thanks for your nice/letter/Most
sincerely/Celia Johnson", blue ink, 7x4½. English stage and screen actress
Celia Johnson (1908-1982) performed often on Broadway and in London's
West End. She was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for Brief
Encounter (1945). She won five BAFTA Awards, including a Best Actress for
her portrayal of the headmistress in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie
(1969). She was awarded an OBE in 1958 and a DBE in 1981. Her husband was
adventurer/travel writer Peter Fleming, the brother of Bond novelist Ian
Fleming. Hand decorated. Left edge worn. Toned. Fine
condition.
