CESARE BARDELLI He endorses a $300 paycheck from the Metropolitan Opera Association Paycheck endorsed: "Cesare Bardelli", 7½x3¾. New York, N. Y. 1966 March 16. Check #8826, drawn on the payroll account of the Metropolitan Opera Association at The Chase Manhattan Bank, payable to Cesare Bardelli for $300.46. Italian baritone Cesare Bardelli (1910-2000) made his opera debut in Aida in 1937. He was known for his excellence in the Italian - and especially Verdi - operas, and especially renowned as Scarpio in Tosca. Bardelli first performed with New York's Metropolitan Opera in 1957, and sang there many times until his retirement in 1979. He was also a celebrated voice teacher. The handsome and charismatic Bardelli received several offers from Hollywood, but turned them down, preferring to focus his talent and energy on opera. 2½x½-inch piece missing from bottom right. Lightly creased. Lightly worn. Bank processing stamps on front and verso (slightly affecting signature). Otherwise, fine condition.
