Photograph Signed: "Bruno Kreisky". Color, 4x5¾. Bruno Kreisky (1911-1990), an active socialist politician, fled his native Austria in 1938 when it was absorbed by Germany, spending the war years in Sweden. After the war, as Under Secretary for Foreign Affairs, he helped negotiate the Austrian State Treaty, which ended Allied occupation and restored the country to full independence. As Foreign Minister (1959-1966), he was instrumental in creating the European Free Trade Agreement. In 1970, Kreisky was elected Chancellor of Austria, the first Jewish head of a Central European government. He held the office until 1983. Fine condition.
