earth unnoted. Yours sincerely," American historian Charles Austin
Beard (1874-1948) was best known to the reading public for The Rise of
American Civilization (1927, two volumes) and its two sequels,
written in collaboration with his wife, Mary Ritter Beard, a historian in her
own right. Also noted for American Government and Politics (1910),
Beard wrote a number of books on the relationship between economic interests and
politics as well as A Charter for Social Sciences in the Schools (1932),
which greatly influenced the way in which history was taught. Fold creases
