Clipped signature: "Your obedient servant/C.A. Dana.". Pencil notations in top right and bottom left corners in unknown hand. 5x1¾ ruled paper. Dana (1819-1897), born Charles Anderson Dana, was the city and later managing editor of Horace Greeley's New York Tribune (1847-1862) and served as President Abraham Lincoln's Assistant Secretary of War (1863-1865). From 1868 until his death in 1897, Dana was part-owner and editor of the New York Sun. Lightly toned, soiled and creased. Neatly torn from larger sheet at top edge. Adhesive residue on verso (no show-through). Irregular left edge. Folded thrice and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
