CHARLES BRONSON and JILL IRELAND
5x3½ early photograph of the Hollywood couple.
Photograph signed: "Charles Bronson" and "Jill Ireland", B/w 5x3½. The actor and actress were married on October 5, 1968. It was the second marriage for both; they lived in Los Angeles with their seven children until Ireland's death in 1990. Bronson's debut film role was You're in the Navy Now. Subsequent small and large roles earned him a reputation for rugged, tough-guy characters, making the most of his unconventional features. It wasn't until 1960 and the role of Bernardo, one of the The Magnificent Seven, that Bronson's career took off. Subsequent roles in The Great Escape in 1963 and The Dirty Dozen in 1967 solidified his status. True stardom evaded him until 1974, when Michael Winner directed him in Death Wish. In 1957, Ireland (1936-1990) married actor David McCallum, with whom she would later appear in several Man From UNCLE TV episodes. Her second husband was action star Charles Bronson, whom she married in 1968. From 1970 onward, Ireland seldom appeared onscreen without Bronson; their best collaborative efforts include Hard Times (1975) and From Noon Till Three (1976). Ink note on verso. Ink lightly smeared on photograph. Otherwise, fine condition.
