CHARLES "CHUCK" COLSON
The former Nixon aide adds a Biblical reference to his handwritten note on a 5x3½ cruise ship postcard.
Autograph Note signed: "To John/Best Wishes/Chuck Colson/Gal 2:20", 5x3½ picture postcard. Pictured on verso is a color image of the Cunard ocean liner Countess. Ink note (unknown hand): "Nov. 1977/Colson/Watergate". Charles "Chuck" Colson (1931-2012), White House Special Counsel (1969-1973) and the third most powerful man in President Richard Nixon's administration, served as Nixon's liaison to key interest groups. Renowned for his ruthlessness, Colson was said to be willing to run over his grandmother to serve the President. He served 207 days in prison for obstruction of justice in the Pentagon Papers and Watergate scandals. His experiences in prison led him to start Prison Fellowship, a Virginia-based Christian counseling program that operates in more than 600 prisons. Colson became a prolific author, columnist and radio commentator. Colson probably would have considered Galatians 2:20, which he cites in this note, a fitting epitaph. It reads, in part: "I have been crucified with Christ, and no longer live, but Christ lives in me." Crease through center. Fine condition.
