Showbill for a 1955 performance of Gounod's Faust at the
Theatre Royal at Newcastle-on-Tyne, England, signed by tenor Charles Craig, who
played Faust, and soprano Estelle Valery, who played Marguerite
Show bill signed "Estelle Valery" in blue ink and "Charles
Craig" in blue ink on cast page. Purple pencil notations on cover in unknown
hand. B/w, 12 pages plus covers, 5¼x8¼, bound with 1 staple. Sixpenny program
for the June 1, 1955 performance of Charles Gounod's Faust at the Theatre
Royal at Newcastle-on-Tyne, England. Craig was Faust and Valery was Marguerite.
CRAIG (1919-1997) was a British tenor. He made his operatic debut at the
New York Metropolitan Opera in 1959 as a gypsy in Verdi's Il Trovatore.
VALERY was a soprano. Lightly toned, soiled and creased. Seal remnants on
cover. Pen dribbled while writing Valery's signature, which is still legible.
Pen skipped while writing Craig's signature, which is still legible. Ink
transference from signatures. Folded in half and unfolded. Otherwise in fine
condition.
