Charles Dana Gibson sends an autograph letter sending a photograph
that he attempted.
Autograph Letter Signed: "C.D. Gibson", 1p, 8½x11. No place,
no date. To "Dear Olive". In full: "I sent you a photo [not
present] of the attempt I once made to do you. I thought you would be amused.
Its for your eyes- I will do much better (I hope) next time all good wishes
Yours," Charles Dana Gibson (1867-1944) began his 30-year association
with "Life" magazine in 1886, contributing weekly drawings and eventually
becoming the magazine's editor (1918) and owner. The illustrator's "Gibson
Girl", whom he called "The American Girl to all the world", delineated the
American ideal of femininity and captured the spirit of an era. Lightly creased
with folds, vertical fold at "D" in signature. Fine condition.
