Signature: "C.D. Gibson", 5½x1½ clipped signature attached to
8½x5½ piece of paper (two surfaces).Charles Dana Gibson (1867-1944)
began his 30-year association with "Life" magazine in 1886, contributing
weekly drawings and eventually becoming the magazine's editor (1918) and owner.
The illustrator's "Gibson Girl", whom he called "The American Girl to all the
world", delineated the American ideal of femininity and captured the spirit
of an era. Slightly soiled. Pencil notes (unknown hand) at lower margin of
mounting paper. Vertical fold crease through "so" of Gibson. Otherwise, fine
condition.
