Autograph sentiment signed: "Respectfully/ C. Delano" in black ink. 3¼x2. Charles Delano (1820-1883) was an American lawyer and a Republican U.S. House of Representative, serving the state of Massachusetts in the 36th and 37th Congresses. Receiving his degree from Amherst College, Delano began practicing law in 1842, becoming the Treasurer of Hampshire County in 1849. In the aftermath of the Mill River Flood of 1874, Delano was appointed assistant coroner in the flood investigation. He also served in many overseeing positions, including the construction of the Troy and Greenfield Railroad. Ink very smeared in top margin. Toned. Corners rounded. Pencil notes on verso in unknown hand. Otherwise, fine condition.
