CHARLES DRAKE
Index card signed by the actor in blue ink, with small black and white printed photo affixed.
Autograph Note signed: "To Jim/Best Wishes/Charles Drake" in blue ink, 5x3 card. With 1x1 b/w printed photon affixed in bottom right corner. Typed caption: "CHARLES DRAKE (1914- ) Actor usually found in dullish good-natured second-leads. In films from the early 1940's". According to the notations on verso, Drake signed this card on July 30, 1955. Saleman-turned-actor Drake (1914-1994) appeared in almost 140 movies and TV shows between 1938 and 1976, with notable performances as Dr. Sanderson in Harvey (1950), cowardly con man Steve Miller in Winchester '73 (1950) and five appearances in Audie Murphy movies, including Gunsmoke (1953), To Hell and Back (1955) and No Name on the Bullet (1959). Most of his credits after 1954 are on TV, including numerous appearances on Robert Montgomery Presents (1955-1956) and Wagon Train (1958-1964) and recurring roles in Rendezvous (1957-1961). Star Trek fans may remember him as Commodore Stockley from the 1967 original series episode The Deadly Years. Drake also appeared on Broadway once, as a singer in the original 46th Street Theatre production of Guys and Dolls. Lightly toned and soiled. Signature has bled lightly but is legible. Ink note (unknown hand) on verso (no show through). Otherwise in fine condition.
