Autograph Sentiment signed: "Yours sincerely/Chas. Dudley Warner/Hartford/May 8, 1897", 8x6¼. B/w photo reproduction on left side of card (2 surfaces). Charles Dudley Warner (1829-1900) edited the Hartford Courant and later Harper's magazine. He also wrote several travelogues, and edited The American Men of Letters. With Mark Twain, he co-authored The Gilded Age (1873), a biting satire about the corruption of post-Civil War America. (Mark Twain was a pall bearer at his funeral.) Warner was the first President of the National Institute of Arts and Letters, and at his death was President of the American Social Science Association. ¾x1-inch piece missing from bottom right corner. One vertical and one horizontal fold. Lightly creased. Slightly worn at edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
