CHARLES STARRETT
Signed b/w movie still of Western actor Charles Starrett aiming a
rifle out a window as the Durango Kid. Starrett has also indicated two of his
frequent co-stars: Tex Hardin and Dub "Cannonball" Taylor.
Photograph signed: "Charles 'Durango'/Starrett/[arrow drawn
to image]". B/w, 10x7¾. Starrett has written the names of his two costars on
their images. Western actors Charles Starrett, Dub Taylor and Tex Harding
appeared together in several films in the Durango Kid series in 1945 and
1946: Both Barrels Blazing, Outlaws of the Rockies, Blazing
the Western Trail, Texas Panhandle and Rustlers of the
Badlands (all 1945) and Frontier Gunlaw and Lawless Empire
(both 1946). Starrett starred as the Durango Kid, Taylor was his comic
sidekick, Cannonball, and Harding was usually billed as himself. This photograph
is from one of those films. STARRETT (1903-1986), who made his film debut in
1930 in Fast and Loose, is best known for the Westerns he made for
Columbia Pictures between 1936 and the 1950s, most notably his "Durango Kid"
series (the Durango Kid, a Lone Ranger-type masked avenger, was the
alter-ego of Bill Bladen). Starrett was also one of the organizers of the
Screen Actors Guild. B/w photograph of two unknown Western stars on verso.
Lightly creased at upper blank edge. Fine condition.
