Signed letter, typed on stationery of the Office of Defense
Mobilization in 1951, to an autograph hunter in Jamaica, New York. He signed
this letter about four months after being made head of the Office of Defense
Mobilization.
Typed letter signed "C.E. Wilson" in blue ink. Pencil
notations near top right corner in unknown hand. 1 page, 7x9, 1 sheet folded, on
stationery from the Office of the Director of the Office of Defense
Mobilization. Date stamped "Mar 8 1951" in purple ink. Addressed
to Mr. Albert Cavallaro, Jr., Jamaica, New York. In full: "Dear Mr.
Cavallaro: I appreciate your recent request for my autograph to be included in
your collection, and trust that my signature on this note will serve your
purpose. My best wishes to you. Sincerely, Charles E. Wilson". From 1942 to
1944, Charlie E. Wilson (1886-1972) was Vice Chairman of the
War Productions Board. Under President Harry S. Truman, he was Chairman
of the Civil Rights Committee (1946-1947) and later head of the Office of
Defense Mobilization (1950-1952).He was also President of General
Motors twice (1940-1942 and 1945-1950). Lightly soiled and creased.
Signature is lightly spotted in places but is legible. Paper clip impression
near top left edge. Folded twice and unfolded. Toned. Otherwise, fine
condition.
