CHARLES E. FREDERICKS
The B-Western actor is shown in a classic black suit in this vintage 3½x5¾ candid photograph
Inscribed photograph signed: "To Francis/with best wishes/Sincerely/Charles Fredericks", in blue ink, B/w 3½x5¾. Notable for his appearances in popular B-Westerns, Charles Fredericks (1918-1970) had a career spanning 15 years and over 70 film and television appearances. A talented singer, Fredericks performed on the stage as well, appearing in the 1946 Broadway revival of Show Boat as Gaylord Ravenal and as Captain Nicholas Gregorovitch in the original 1947 production of Music in My Heart. His first major film appearance was in Thunder Pass (1954), which would also be his first western film. The list of Western themed shows and movies goes on and on, with more notable mentions being The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp (1956), Colt .45 (1957), and Maverick (1958). Truly a passionate actor, Fredericks last appearance on television was in Gunsmoke in 1969, just a year a before he sadly passed away. This photograph is from the collection of Francis and Violet Zane, Hawaii natives who moved to California in the 1920's. Francis Zane had a job at the historic Curran Theater and the San Francisco Opera House, which is where he began his massive collection, with photographs and materials ranging from the 1920's to 1960's. The location and luck of his occupation would land him smack dab in the middle of the celebrity world, allowing him to capture some of the most unique and interesting pieces of Hollywood History. Corners worn. Lightly bowed. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
