Photograph signed: "Best Wishes/Charles E Potter". B/w, 8x10.
Photograph by "miller of washington" (imprint at lower left). Typed caption
on verso: "U.S. Senator Charles E. Potter, of Michigan". Charles Edward
Potter (1916-1979) served as a Republican U.S. Senator from Michigan from
1952, when he was appointed to fill a vacancy, until 1959. He had previously
served as U.S. Representative from Michigan from 1947-1952. Potter, a
decorated veteran of WWII (Purple Heart, two Silver Stars), lost both of his
legs during the war. A confidant of President Dwight D. Eisenhower,
Potter wrote a memoir, Days of Shame (1965), about McCarthyism, a topic
on which he had frequently advised "Ike". After his public service, Potter
became an industrial consultant and international securities executive. He is
buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Lightly creased at blank margins and
corners, nicked at upper blank edge, chipped at upper right blank corner. Minor
surface creases and scratches (most not evident head on). Diagonal smudge at
right background. Overall, fine condition.
