Vintage 7x10 photograph of the American tenor signed in Italian and dated 1918
Inscribed photograph signed: "Charles Hackett/1918", beneath Italian inscription (untranslated), B/w 7x10. American tenor Charles Hackett (1889-1942) performed on opera and concert stages worldwide. He made his Metropolitan Opera debut as Almaviva in The Barber of Seville in 1919. From 1923 to 1934, he sang with the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Hackett married Italian ballerina Virginia Zucchi, with Enrico Caruso as his best man. Corners and edges slightly worn. Lightly toned. Image slightly silvered. Signature in poor contrast and heavily faded in some areas, but legible. Ink note (unknown hand) on verso falsely identifies the signer as "Carlos Hackey". Otherwise, fine condition.
